KTM VS. KTM VS. KTM
MX1 Too many choices? 450 against 350
against 250 SHOOTOUT
Once upon a time, we were lucky if a manufacturer included even one dedicated race bike in its line. Then came the era
when everyone had a bike for every class. Now there is even
more intense specialization. In many cases, we have more than
one bike per class. Case in point: KTM offers three different
models for top-level motocross. The 450SXF, 350SXF and
250SX are all made for what they call the MX1 class in Europe.
Rules vary from club to club, but across the U.S., no one will
bat an eye if these three machines show up on the same start
line. KTM has never been a company to shy away from niche
marketing, so now we have a not-so-clear choice: big four-stroke versus middleweight four-stroke versus 250 two-stroke.
We took the three machines to the same track on the same day
with a cross-section of riders to get some answers.
