Back around Y2K, when the Husky 125 came out, it was
as modern as anything on the market, with a compact
case-reed motor and six-speed gearbox. Today, it has a V-force reed and a Ducati-made ignition. The chassis is
essentially the same as that of the TC250 motocross four-stroke with most of the same components. The handlebar
is a Magura, the brakes are Brembos and the fork is a
KYB. The shock is a Sachs, whereas the four-stroke has a
KYB. The WR is much softer for off-road use.
Husky still has a 125cc motocross bike in the line with
slight differences, but fewer than you might think. The WR
has a different ignition curve, but it has the same pipe and
silencer (no spark arrestor). The WR’s gas tank holds 2. 5
gallons, and it has an 18-inch rear wheel and a kickstand.
Both bikes get the extra 144 parts. The box includes a
new cylinder, head, piston, ring and O-ring set. There are
also two power valves for the cylinder, but you have to use
the existing linkage. The diameter of the stock piston is
54mm, while the oversize one is 58mm. That makes the
Husky a legitimate 144, which is actually a few tenths of a
cubic centimeter larger than the KTM 150. But, the KTM
isn’t a kitted version of the 125; it has both a larger bore
and a longer stroke than its little brother. The primary
advantage is a lighter piston.
That doesn’t mean the Husky 144 is a compromise. The
bike was tested on the world stage by World Enduro
champion Antoine Meo. Back in 2008, before the new
Husky 250F was released, Meo preferred the 144 to any of
the bikes in Husqvarna’s fleet. He primarily raced it in the
