Last year was the exception. In every other year, KTM engi- neers grew horsepower like a weed. Then, along came
2012, and suddenly the KTM 250SX-F was a pooch. The 450
was a powerhouse; all the two-strokes were incredible, and
the 500 was mind-blowing. But, in the one class where sheer
power is valued above all else, KTM was left standing at the
dock when the horsepower boat left port. In the 250F class,
you can get away with a lot of crimes, but you can’t survive if
you’re down on power.
The KTM honchos apparently knew it. Although the R&D
department was overwhelmed with new platforms, new projects and new motors, the 250F was sent downstairs for a
major remake. For 2013, the bike is the most radically
changed model in the KTM line.
