HUSQVARNA TC250 MOTOCROSSER: This is a two-stroke motocross bike, and that already makes it near and
dear to our hearts. The motor is the most powerful 250cc
two-stroke you can buy. Its power delivery is smooth by
two-stroke standards, and it’s almost 30 pounds lighter
than a 450cc four-stroke. All that adds up to a bike that’s
incredibly fun to ride. You feel like superman on the
TC250; it’s easy to toss around, and you always feel like
you’re the man in charge.
Like most two-stroke motocross bikes, it struggles to
find traction at times. This was a particular issue in
Sweden, where the track was muddy from light rain. The
TC250 will be a specialty bike, best suited for tight, tacky
tracks with rolling whoops. Its fun factor is higher than its
effectiveness as a pure race bike.
HUSQVARNA FE501 OFF-ROAD BIKE: Of all the bikes
in the Husky line, this has the most distinctive personality.
The KTM that it most closely resembles is the 500XC-W,
but there are some big differences. The FE has linkage
rear suspension with cushy shock settings, and that gives
the bike a very different feel. The traditional “stinkbug”
KTM feel is gone, and the bike is super comfortable. Even
the seat seems softer.
The motor is, of course, a brute. It makes power everywhere. You learn quickly to ride it in a tall gear to soften
the acceleration and mitigate the engine braking. You
The FC250, like the other Husky motocross bikes, is very similar to a KTM model.
