OFF-ROAD TEST: KTM 150XC-W
>All things on earth have a lifespan. For the KTM 200, it was a long and healthy one, lasting from 1997 to 2016.
It was one of the most loved off-road bikes
in history, and if it were dropped without
ceremony or substitute, there would be riots
and chaos descending on KTM’s U.S. home
base in Amherst, Ohio. That was avoided
because of a very smart move. In a seamless
switch, KTM produced the 150CX-W to take
its place. This is an electric-start, six-speed,
two-stroke off-road bike that appears to fill
that place neatly. It gives away 50cc but also
loses 20 pounds. It has the technology to
replace the 200, but we’re messing with a
legend here. Can the 150 really take over?
Can KTM’s newest two-stroke
fill the gap left by the 200XC-W?
