rpm. The Pro Circuit work filled in the weak areas higher
in the revs. The PC piston raises compression slightly, but
the motor can still run on pump gas. Pro Circuit also custom makes the Ti- 6 Pro dual exhaust system with rubber
mounts to JCR’s specifications. Moto Tassinari’s Air4orce
intake boot is used, and the ignition cover is directly from
the Honda Factory HRC shop. The ignition mapping is
the result of JCR’s testing with Trevor. The clutch is by
Hinson, as is the clutch cable bracket, which reduces flex
and improves feel.
As you might expect, the suspension is all Showa A-kit
stuff from Pro Circuit. The fork uses coil springs, and the
Xtrig clamps have a 22mm offset. What really demonstrates
the amount of testing invested in this bike is the detailing.
The motor mounts, for example, are
custom-machined to allow a certain
amount and type of frame flex.
The IMS footpeg mounts have an
8.5mm rearward offset. When
you look at the subframe, it’s
clear that nothing is left untouched—material has been
added and removed in various places to allow a certain
type of flex. Trevor’s subframe is lowered, but that wasn’t
done in this case, because Justin is considerably taller. The
swingarm was shortened and uses BRP chainguide blocks.
There are a number of off-the-shelf aftermarket products
that are essential for cross-country racing. The IMS tank
holds 3. 2 gallons and has a dry-break filler. GNCC races
last three hours and require at least one gas stop. Acerbis
supplies things like pegs, covers, handguards and a skid
plate. The front brake, interestingly enough, is an old-
school 240mm Galfer rotor; it’s less prone to damage than
larger ones. The tires on this bike are Maxxis SIs—although
when he races, Justin will run with STI, a personal sponsor.
We had the bike in our clutches for a very short time
before it was loaded up and taken back east to Peru,
Indiana, for the newest venue on the GNCC schedule. It
was so perfect that we had second thoughts about letting
Justin take it away. Certain aspects of it didn’t surprise us.
