Invitational on Sunday. As you can imagine, August in
Tennessee is no picnic; the hot, thick, humid air is almost as
challenging as the terrain itself. There are four legs on
Sunday, and riders are eliminated in each round until they
come to a 10-lap final. Mike Brown was the winner for both
2011 and 2012. The course runs through hills that can be
accessed on foot, so most of the riders from Saturday
become spectators on Sunday. One of the highlights from
2012 was when Kyle Redmond’s bike overheated and actually caught on fire in a particularly difficult section.
The International Six-Day Enduro remains the most presti-

gious off-road race in the world. Countries select their best
riders to go head to head at a different venue each year.
There are several different competitions within the ISDE: a
Trophy Team class for elite six-man teams, a Junior World
class for teams of riders who are under 23 years old, and a
Club class for the rank-and-file riders sent from each country.
In the U.S., riders are selected through a series of qualifiers.
This year, there are two qualifiers: one in Ohio and another in
Idaho. The winners will make up the team that will compete
in Sardinia, Italy, this fall.
This one is billed as the “most enjoyable Extreme Enduro”
in the Red Bull series. That’s probably because it starts in
Kemer, Turkey, near the resorts of the Turkish Riviera. The
Most of the Romaniacs course is singletrack trail. But, there are
manmade obstacles that have to been seen to be believed.
