OFF-ROAD RACING SOUTH OF THE BORDER
The Tecate 250 enduros of the 1980s were legend- ary for being tough, brutal and long. National enduro
and cross-country riders made the trek to the Hacienda
Rancho Veronica for no other reason than that the event
served as an informal year-end run-off to prove who was
the best rider in North America. If you don’t believe it, take
a look at who has won this event, as the list is peppered
with names like Jack Johnson, Malcolm Smith, Bob Popiel,
Larry Roeseler, Ty Davis, Dave Bertram, Randy Hawkins,
Kevin Hines and Destry Abbott.
The Tecate Enduro will drive most riders to drink; some
guys just seem more happy about it.
