OUR TAKE: We wore the Arsenal
over our jerseys and then snugged
the straps to take out the slack and
keep it snug. We felt well protected,
even without a chest protector, due to
the rugged nature of the material. The
vest never moved around like a backpack or loosened up like a waist bag.
The weight of the system did not feel
bulky or bothersome since it was well
distributed, and the vest never started
pulling at our necks. In our testing
conditions (high 40s to mid 60s) we
felt no need for a jacket. We packed
a rain shell/windbreaker in one of the
long compartments and used that if it
got cold or for high-speed road sec-
tions. Up front, we kept a couple of
single tools for quick adjustments—a
multi screw driver, mini t-handle and a
5mm Allen for adjusting the Rekluse.
We also stowed a phone, snacks,
registration, and a goggle rag in the
front pockets for easy access without
having to take the vest off. The Hydro
pack is a quality piece and totes
3-liters of fluid.
BOTTOM LINE: This is a superb
off-road hydration/tool cargo setup
because the weight is well distributed.
Normally, our weathered testers can’t
take tool weight on the waist in a butt
bag, and a backpack tends to feel
heavy and is a pain when you want
to get at your tools, spares or phone.
There are no issues with the vest. It
is inoffensive and a smart way to pack
for a good round of exploration without feeling slammed from the swing
weight of a backpack. It gets a big fat
A in our book!
