Sam Sunderland got his 2018 Dakar Rally off to the
perfect start with a commanding win on the short
30-kilometer special stage
in the dunes just outside
of Lima, Peru. The Brit,
carrying the number-one
plate on his KTM 450
Rally, took the win
by 33 seconds.
Mark Samuels can handle high speeds. The
multi-time Baja 1000 champion will make his
Dakar Rally debut this year aboard a Honda
on the MEC team. Check out the story later
in this issue about how it all happened.
CHANGE OF PACE
Andrew Short signed a deal with
Rockstar Husqvarna less than a
month before the start of this year’s
Dakar Rally. 2018 will definitely be
a learning year for Shorty.
PAYING THE PRICE
Factory KTM rider Toby Price
was sidelined almost all of
last year from a leg injury. He
is back and wants his number-one plate back.
