Europe’s youngest and oldest
Here’s your math question for the day: find the common
denominator for the following:
adventure biking, Steve McQueen,
Bud Ekins, desert sleds, Rickman
Matisse, more adventure biking. If
you’re older than the Republic of
Slovakia, then you should know
the answer immediately. Triumph.
Triumph is the original adventure
bike company. If you merge its
various incarnations and ignore
periods of receivership and bankruptcy, Triumph has been around
since 1902. Throughout all that
time, the dusty adventuring image
is one thing that has been constant.
Despite that heritage, the Tiger
800XC came to the modern adventure bike party a little late, at least
compared to the Euro giants KTM
and BMW. The Tiger appeared just
a couple of years back, but its
capabilities gave it instant credibility. In its short lifespan, the 800XC
has developed a hard-core following of off-road touring nuts.
Jumping a 500-pounder is usually a
heart-stopping experience. The
Triumph makes it feel natural.
