Injected and perfected from the start
Beta shouldn’t be this good. It blows our cynical little minds that a small Italian company can wake up one day, decide to build off-road bikes and come up with motorcycles that
are better than Hondas and Yamahas. But it’s
true. Beta’s line of off-road and dual-sport bikes
are among the best in the world, and riders like
Cody Webb, Nick Burson and Max Gerston
prove it every week.
The 2015 Beta 350RR gives us a little understanding of how that’s possible. It’s the company’s first fuel-injected bike. Beta is very late to
the EFI party, arriving a full five years after virtually everyone else went digital. It demonstrates
how the engineers and test riders at the company think. They could have bolted on a Keihin
EFI throttle body back in 2010 and claimed to
be at the technological leading edge, but they
sat on the technology all this time. Doubtless
they tested every new generation of injectors
and electronic brains against their carbureted
production bikes and didn’t see any advantage.
Now, however, the time has come, and the
result is as polished and refined as anything in
the off-road world.
