molecule re-arranger and transformed into an MX mutant.
With its backwards head, top-side air filter and hidden fuel
tank, we thought the bike had come from far into the future—
maybe 2017. We thought the bike would either be a complete
flop or become the prototype for all future motocross bikes.
As it turned out, neither happened. The YZ450F is still
here; it’s still advanced and it’s still unique. No one followed
Yamaha into its vision of the future, but the YZ remains an
engineering marvel that made good on most of its promises.
It turned out that Yamaha’s vision was a legitimate solution to
