2013 ISDE TEAM USA
CAPTAIN Seasoned ISDE veteran Kurt Caselli returns as the team captain in 2013, and he brings along another seasoned veteran, his teammate Mike Brown. TOP AMERICAN Taylor Robert returns to the team as last year’s top American rider and looks to improve on his accom- plishments in 2013.
The second annual Reno Extreme event in McCarren, Nevada, was a single race that counted as four. It was round eight of the AMA Kenda National Hare & Hound series, but it also paid points for SCORE, Get Extreme and was part of the Dakar Challenge USA. What it all came down to was a very gnarly race held in the hostile desert 20 miles east of Reno. Instead of the high-speed sections that usually greet Hare & Hound racers, the Reno Extreme had miles of torturous rocks and slow technical sections. Most of the riders knew exactly what to expect because it was the second running of the event, but not for series points leader Kurt Caselli. He was injured when the series made this stop in 2012 and had to play catch-up in the point standings. Kawasaki of Simi Valley’s Jacob Argubright capi- talized on his superior course knowledge and basically out-rode Caselli to take the overall win by over two minutes. That’s something that almost never happens in a straight-up race out west. Caselli was riding a six-race winning streak in the National Hare & Hound series, while this represented Argubright’s first win of the year. The next riders in were Caselli’s KTM teammate Ivan Ramirez, followed by the Purvines Beta duo of Justin Morrow and Nick Burson. Caselli’s series-points lead isn’t at risk, though. He still has a 30- point advantage, which means he could sit out a round and still hold the lead. PODIUM Bobby Garrison, Robby Bell and Justin Jones made up the pro podium at round eight of WORCS held at Pala Raceway.
