OFF-ROAD RIDE GUIDE
A “splatter” is one of those special techniques common in extreme
enduros. It’s basically a vertical step-up to a tall platform. That “platform”
might be a waterfall, a truck tire, a K-rail or a massive log that could be
taller than the wheels of the bike itself.
The method sounds simple enough. It’s a nearly vertical wheelie, where
the face of the platform keeps the bike from a loop-out at the last moment.
If the face is tall enough, somehow achieving upward momentum is necessary. A booster like a rock can do the job, even if it’s small. Otherwise, you
need to bunnyhop from flat earth, and that requires strength.
The “Splatter” is
a maneuver that
a vertical face. A
booster rock is helpful for the launch
but not necessary.
