Yes, Ryan Villopoto is the best motocross rider in the world. Yes, Monster Energy Kawasaki is the most successful team. Yes, Kawasaki is spending the money and
making the commitments required to be on top. But, you have to give credit to the
motorcycle that drives it all. The Kawasaki KX450F is probably the best motocross
bike ever built, and it’s the foundation for all the success that Kawasaki is currently
On the pro level, the KX450F is on a two-year drunken crime spree in Supercross
and is currently dominating the outdoors. In the real world, where we non-Villopoto
types live, ride and race, the KX-F is clearly the bike of choice. It has won the DB 450
shootout for the last two years and is the most respected 450 at the track. On those
rare occasions when the pro world and the local race scene align, it’s a sure sign that
a motorcycle is truly something special.
Happy with the bike’s success, Kawasaki left the bike virtually unchanged for 2014.
We would like to think that the development team at Kawasaki got to take the year
off, but we know better. The engineers who made the bike so good in 2013 were
assigned other projects for 2014. The 2014 model has all the same strengths and
weaknesses of the 2013 model, but the goods news is, we couldn’t be happier.
