2014 SUZUKI RM-Z250
– The piston and piston pin were
developed using Finite Element
Method (FEM) analysis. The new
piston is 3 percent lighter without
any compromise to strength or
rigidity.
– The intake cam profile and the
exhaust cam timing were changed
to adjust the overall output characteristics. This establishes both high
output and controllability.
–Like the 450, the muffler body uses
conventional bolts in the end cap
instead of rivets to simplify replacement of the glass wool packing in
the muffler.
–Showa’s Separate Function Fork
(SFF) separates the spring and
damping tasks. The right leg holds
the spring, while the left leg incorporates the cartridge assembly to
manage damping. This results in
reduced friction, increased absorption performance and weight savings.
– Two couplers are included for
quickly adjusting the fuel setting to
suit the riding conditions. One is for
a richer fuel setting than the stock
setting, and the other is for a leaner
fuel setting.

The RM-Z 250 uses
a new lighter piston
and top end changes
targeting broader
power.
This will probably
be the last year for
the 450’s current
engine design.
Both Zs use the Showa SFF
fork. One side spring, the
other is damping.
