The masses could ride the prologue and continue as far as
they were able, then spend the afternoon watching the
more challenging final stages. There were plenty of places
to watch riders navigate extreme obstacles (e.g., massive
water crossings), EnduroCross tires, and rocks the size of
refrigerators, but the truly spectacular terrain was deep in
the hills around Glen Helen Raceway, inaccessible to fans
and choked in poison oak. That’s where the Last Dog
Standing course entered legendary status.
